A Day At Domino Park

If you follow me on social media, you’d know how much I love exploring NYC parks and playgrounds with the boys. Some weeks ago, I wrote a blog post on the best things to do with kids in NYC, all from our experiences. We recently revisited one of our favorite splash pads at Domino park, located right here in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. After I shared the boy’s pictures on Instagram, I’ve gotten tons of questions about Domino’s park, So I thought I’d write a post on our day at the park to understand your visit better there.

We visited Domino park on one of the hottest days in NYC, which wasn’t the best idea on my part, but my logical thinking was the park is located on the waterfront; it would be some degrees cooler there. It didn’t turn out that way. I’d suggest going there on cooler days or late evenings to beat the heat. I also decided to drive there, avoiding all highways because I am not confident in my driving skills on highways, haha especially with my precious kids. It took me about 30 mins from my home using side streets to get to Kent Av Williamsburg and another 15 minutes looking for parking as close to the Domino park as possible. There is a parking garage located near the park if that is something you’d consider doing.

Domino’s park is an entire 5 acres along the East River waterfront, located in Williamsburg. The playground was designed by James Corner Field Operations. and was the former home of Domino sugar factory hence the park's unique structure. The park is consists of striking artifacts, one being the colorful Gantry cane which were once used to unload sugarcane. there is something for everyone with plenty of space to relax, an amazing city and bridge view, a cool playground, volleyball, a bounce court, and more. Whether you’re going there to bask on the lawn or let the kids have run in the splash pad I’d recommend a visit to domino’s park this summer. One thing the park does lack is a shady area for us adults.

The kids wasted no time jumping in the splash pad.

After hours of being in the water the kids decided to over to the playground to play for a few minutes, like other areas of the park, the playground was created with items reclaimed from domino’s sugar refinery. From the Sugar Cane Cabin to the Sweetwater Silo the playground is fun gear towards older kids, again not the shadiest but my kids didn’t mind as much I did!

With all the running and splashing around, we grab some tacos and ice pops at Tacocina to satisfied our hunger. The area is lovely and perfect for getting out from the sun with picnic-style tables and umbrellas. Part of me wished my husband was there with us because I wanted a nice margarita to complete the day we had at domino park ha…… but I settled on a bottle of water with my taco before the kids headed back into the splash pad one last time.

We had a fantastic day of fun and the view of the city. Domino’s Park is gorgeous and a great place to take pictures. My iPhone didn’t do justice to the scenery.

I hope you enjoyed reading about visiting domino’s park, and all tips and opinions are my own!
